2013: On July 24, 2013 the Fort Lauderdale Strikers signed twenty-eight-year-old defender Rafael Alves for the 2013 Fall Season. He is known as a set-piece specialist.
Alves made his debut for the Strikers in the first match of the season, a 2-1 defeat to The New York Cosmos on August 3. In his next match, Alves scored an unfortunate own goal in a 3-1 defeat to Minnesota United FC at Lockhart. Alves was named to the NASL Team of the Week the following week after his performances in the Strikers 2-1 win against the San Antonio Scorpions on August 17.
Professional: Alves played in his native Brazil with Boa Esporte, Ituano FC and Goiás.
Amateur: Prior to signing with the Strikers, Alves played for the Ocala Stampede of the PDL. The big defender scored four goals in 10 league appearances.
