2013: Brown returned for a second season with the Strikers, joining Matt Glaeser as Cody Laurendi as the team’s goalkeepers. Following a season-ending injury to Laurendi, Brown became understudy to Glaeser.
He played the second-half in the 4-0 defeat to Brazilian side Cruzeiro on June 23, 2013, conceding just one goal and making several key stops. Brown made his professional debut on June 29, starting in goal in the 4-1 defeat to the San Antonio Scorpions.
2012: South Florida native Lionel Brown signed his first professional with his hometown side, the Fort Lauderdale Strikers ahead of the 2012 North American Soccer League season. The club announced his signing, along with Darnell King and Hosman Ramos, on March 27, 2012.
Brown did not make any official appearances for the Strikers in 2012.
College: Brown started his college soccer career at East Central Junior College in St. Louis. A starter his first two seasons, Brown recorded an impressive record of 25-12-6 and kept 16 clean sheets. Brown was named to the First Team All-Region and Second Team All-Conference.
Brown transferred to the University of Connecticut from East Central College his junior year, and stayed with the Huskies through the 2011 season. He was teammates with former Strikers’ defender Nickardo Blake at East Central Junior College and the University of Connecticut.
Personal: South Florida native Lionel Brown attended Coconut Creek High School. He was team captain and BCAA All-Star Goalie and an All-State Honorable Mention.
