The Strikers announced today that they have resigned forward Abe Thompson for the upcoming 2011 season. Per team policy, terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
“Anytime you can bring back a MLS veteran who was your leading goal scorer last season it’s a positive move for the team. We will look to Abe for veteran leadership and hope he will find the same success he had last season.” Said Head Coach Daryl Shore.
Thompson, 29, a Virginia native, began his college career at the University of Maryland where he spent 4 seasons. He had a stellar career for the school as he was named Hermann Trophy Finalist in 2004 and 2005. After college, FC Dallas drafted Thompson in 2005 where he spent four years making 69 appearances and scoring 14 goals. In 2008 he was traded to Kansas City and spent one season but was soon traded again to Houston. Last March, Miami FC signed Thompson where he made 26 appearances and scoring 9 goals in his first season.
