Starting Monday, January 31, the D.C. United will be staying in the Ft. Lauderdale area for a 13-day long pre-season training gathering. Training will be held every day at Fort Lauderdale Stadium, which also serves as the practice stadium for the Miami FC/ Strikers of the North American Soccer League.

“We are honored to have a strong club like D.C. United join us here at the Fort Lauderdale Soccer Training Facility for their home away from home during pre-season,” states Miami FC/Strikers Facilities Manager Kristen Schiereck. “I’m confident that they will make the most of our facility and our beautiful South Florida weather.”

Based in Washington, D.C., the United is considered the most successful club in Major League Soccer. Led by Head Coach Ben Olsen, the decorated team has won six of the last seven Atlantic Cup Trophies. Since the MLS’ birth in 1996, the United have won the league championship four times and also won the CONCACAF Champions’ League in 1998. The team also holds the record for most MLS Cups and MLS Supporters’ Shields, as it was also the first club to win both titles back-to-back.

During their stay in South Florida, the club is scheduled to awake bright and early for their two-a-day training sessions held every day for as long as three hours at a time. There are also a handful of competitive practice matches scheduled as part of their training sessions. 

All practices are CLOSED to the public.
