Strikers Re-sign Andy Herron

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers have announced forward Andy Herron has re-signed for the 2013 season with a club option for 2014. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Herron, 34, completed his first season with the Strikers in 2012, playing in 18 games with 16 starts. He recorded eight goals and two assists on the season, his eight scores placing him sixth overall in the NASL.
“We are excited to return our second leading scorer for this year's NASL season,” said Strikers head coach Daryl Shore. “Even though he only played in 18 games last year, Andy proved he could be a top goal scorer in our league and we are excited he is back in the red and yellow.”
Herron began the 2012 season by being named NASL Offensive Player of the Week in two of the first three weeks of the season.
Herron played with the Chicago Fire from 2004-2006 and again in 2008. While at Chicago, he was an integral part, and scored the game-winning goal for the Fire team which defeated the Los Angeles Galaxy to win the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2006.
A native of Costa Rica, Herron’s career as an international is highlighted by his time at Club Sport Herediano in Costa Rica where he led them to the country’s championship in 2004.
