The dream of playing professional soccer continues for five players as the Fort Lauderdale Strikers opened their 2013 training camp. That’s how many players made the cut from the open tryout held over the weekend at historic Lockhart Stadium. More than 80 local and international players participated in the Spring 2013 Open Tryouts.
Phil Boerger, Stephane Guillaume, Andres Cabrero, Michael Munoz and Ronald Caceido will train with the Strikers during preseason. From last season’s open tryout invitees, two players, David Martin and Lionel Brown, signed contracts with the Strikers.
"On behalf of the organization, I'd like to thank all the players for attending our open tryout and for their professionalism," said head coach Daryl Shore. "We feel the five players we invited have the best chance to help our team."
Guillaume may be a name familiar to Strikers fans as the Haitian International spent parts of three seasons with the previous incarnation of the Strikers from 2006 to 2008, recording 24 appearances in those three seasons.
“I’m looking forward for the opportunity with the team,” said Guillaume. “It really means a lot to me, my family and everyone who follows my play back in Haiti.”
