Fort Lauderdale, FL (May 12th, 2011) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers are preparing for their first match against FC Tampa Bay of the 2011 season. The Strikers are coming off a four game road trip where they earned five points in four games. The Strikers traveled to Atlanta, Puerto Rico, Minnesota, and Carolina recording one win, two ties, and one loss.
“We know it’s a big game for our fans but it’s an even bigger game for us on the field coming off a loss yesterday,” said Head Coach Daryl Shore. “We feel this is a game we have to win and we'll give every effort to take three points from this game.”
Following this Saturday’s match, the Strikers will return to action against the Atlanta Silverbacks on Saturday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Atlanta. Strikers fans, be sure to tune in for the game at www.strikers.com/live.
About the Strikers
The Fort Lauderdale Strikers are coming off a 4-2 away loss to the Carolina RailHawks on Wednesday, May 11th. The Strikers opened the scoring in the match when Patrick Otte struck a half volley from a Brian Shriver cross into the corner of the net in the 8thminute. Carolina responded a few minutes later when Pablo Campos headed an Etienne Barbara cross and took a 2-1 lead with a penalty kick by Barbara in the 27thminute. Early in the second half, Carolina scored again off another Campos header to put Carolina up by two goals. Strikers’ rookie David Santamaria came on late in the second half for his first appearance of the season and made his presence felt immediately. Santamaria received a pass from Aaron Hohlbein and slotted the ball past the keeper to make the score 3-2. However, with the Strikers pushing forward they were vulnerable and the RailHawks added another goal in stoppage time to make it 4-2. The Strikers are currently 1-3-2 in league play.

FC Tampa Bay is coming off a 1-1 draw against FC Edmonton on Wednesday, May 11that home. Tampa midfielder Chad Burt scored in the 51st minute for FC Tampa Bay off a pass from midfielder Pascal Millien. It marked Burt's first goal of the 2011 season, and his second overall with FC Tampa Bay. However, FC Edmonton tied the game in second half stoppage time as midfielder Chris Kooy scored the game-tying goal, with the assist from forward Paul Craig. FC Tampa Bay is currently 1-3-2 in league play.
Otte and Santamaria open professional careers
Two first-year Strikers opened up their professional careers at Wednesday’s loss to the Carolina RailHawks, Patrick Otte and David Santamaria. Both Otte and Santamaria scored the first professional goals of their careers in Wednesday’s 4-2 loss. Otte started his first match of the year and scored the match’s first goal with a half volley from 12 yards out off a Brian Shriver cross. Santamaria came on as a substitute late in the second half, creating several chances, before running onto a through ball from Aaron Hohlbein and calmly slotting a shot in the net. Both players will look to continue their good form in the Strikers next match on Saturday, May 14that 7:30 p.m. at Lockhart Stadium.
Strikers to sell FC Barcelona vs. Chivas de Guadalajara tickets
The Fort Lauderdale Strikers have announced they will be selling tickets to the much anticipated FC Barcelona vs. Chivas de Guadalajara match on August 3rd at Sun Life Stadium. Tickets will go on sale at the Strikers home match this Saturday, May 14th at 7:30 p.m. against FC Tampa Bay. With each FC Barcelona vs. Chivas ticket purchase, fans will receive a ticket to the Strikers next home match against the Montreal Impact on May 28th.
