Both teams are seven points behind league-leading NY Cosmos and need a win to stay in the hunt for the Soccer Bowl
FORT LAUDERDALE (October 10, 2013) – The Fort Lauderdale Strikers will look to sweep the Tampa Bay Rowdies in back-to-back games this Saturday, October 12, at Al Lang Stadium in St Petersburg at 7.30pm ET. The match has playoff implications as a loss would all but eliminate the team. Both the Strikers and the Rowdies find themselves at 14 points with four games left, seven points behind the New York Cosmos.
The Strikers defeated the Rowdies last Saturday by a score of 2-1 in a Florida Derby match at Lockhart Stadium in beautiful Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Martin Nuñez and Bradlee Baladez both found the back of the net to give the Strikers the win.
“I think the Rowdies underestimated us,” said Strikers head coach Günter Kronsteiner. “Now they will be prepared for us. They will be a completely different team this time, they will not underestimate us again.”
The Strikers will have a tough time playing in Tampa Bay, where they have been unable to collect any points in five tries since 2011. The match-up is also the conclusion of the seasonal state rivalry clash known as the Coastal Cup, with the Rowdies having won the last three and able to clinch their fourth consecutive crown with a win or draw.
