Strikers will look to close out the season on a positive note as they take on FC Edmonton at home on November 2nd
Fort Lauderdale, FL (October 26, 2013) – Pablo Campos scored his second goal of the night in the 74th minute to give Minnesota United FC (5-2-6, 17pts) the 3-1 lead, and the home team was able to withstand a strong offensive attack by the visiting Fort Lauderdale Strikers (5-2-6, 17pts) for the last 15 minutes to give their home fans the win.
The Strikers had several opportunities to score throughout the match, finishing the night with seven shots on goal, but with only Carlos Salazar able to find the back of the net. Yaikel Pérez had several chances, but Minnesota goalkeeper Mitch Hildenbrandt had a solid game and was able to hold the Strikers to just one goal.
Campos second goal of the night sealed the game as he received pass from Miguel Ibarra inside
the box and the Strikers defender were unable to take the ball away and stop Campos from scoring his 11th goal of the season and second of the night.
Campos also opened the scoring in the game in the 10th minute when Lucas Rodriguez crossed
the ball inside the box and Campos was able to split the defenders to get to the ball and beat Strikers keeper Richard Sanchez.
The Strikers goal came from Salazar who tied the game in the 28th minute, when he received a cross from Guerrero and tried to head it in, but the Minnesota defender kicked it away; fortunately for Salazar the ball came back to him and he was able to beat Hildenbrandt.
Minnesota United scored off a corner kick in the 45th minute to take the 2-1 lead into the locker room. The corner taken by Floyd Franks was headed down by Pablo Campos and Minnesota team captain Aaron Pitchkolan was able to find the ball and direct it just past the Strikers keeper Richard Sanchez.
