Strikers solidify midfield by signing Chris Nurse
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (March 14, 2014) — The Fort Lauderdale Strikers today announced the signing of midfielder Chris Nurse, 29, for the 2014 campaign. As per club policy, the terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Chris is an experienced player who has already won a championship in this league and is going to help us in many ways,” said Strikers Head Coach Günter Kronsteiner. “He’s a solid player and a leader both on the field and in the locker room.”
Nurse, a 6' 2" midfielder, was born in London, England of Guyanese descent. He was named captain of the Guyana National Team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification matches. He has 47 National Team caps with Guyana, scoring 5 goals.
Nurse made his NASL debut in 2010 with the Puerto Rico Islanders and joined the Carolina RailHawks on loan in 2011/12 before returning to the Islanders later in 2012. He spent the 2013 season with FC Edmonton, where he scored three goals during the season and was named North American Soccer League Player of the Month for the month of August.
Chris Nurse is the fifth new player to join the Strikers for 2014. The club has also re-signed 14 players from last season’s roster. More signings are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
