The Fort Lauderdale Strikers hosted a field trip from KidVision VPK for a segment which introduced soccer to 4-5 year olds. The segment is available online to teachers throughout the US.

The segment, which features Strikers President Tom Mulroy and several Strikers players, teaches small kids about the basics of soccer. A group of kids visit Lockhart Stadium and learn about soccer by watching a practice and then going on the field to practice what was learned.

“We’re thrilled to have been a part of this wonderful program,” said Strikers President Tom Mulroy. “We are proud to be able to introduce our sport to young children. Soccer is a sport that can be played by anyone and everyone. It teaches teamwork, motor skills, and most importantly, it keeps kids active."

The segment will be available on the KidVision VPK's website, an innovative and free online and on iPhone/iPad APP program that takes 4 to 5 year-old children on virtual field trips to learn national education standards (lessons). KidVision VPK's goal is to prepare all 4 year-old children for kindergarten with the assistance of hands-on activities and virtual field trips they can view at home or in the classroom. It’s also available on YouTube and PBS Learning Media's site.

Pre-K teachers are encouraged to go onto their site to earn free CEUs. They do this by watching the videos hosted on their site and taking a test of the lessons covered. The teachers can also download supporting teaching materials of topics covered by field trip. Additionally, through a grant funding from the Children’s Services Council of Broward County (CSC), DVDs will be produced and distributed to Broward county pre-K schools.

The CSC who is also a sponsor of the Strikers’ Kicks for Kids program, facilitated the partnership between the Strikers and KidVision VPK for this segment. Kicks for Kids powered by Children's Services Council of Broward County is a program that supports underprivileged children by giving them the opportunity to experience the excitement of a Fort Lauderdale Strikers home game at Lockhart Stadium.
