Strikers lose to River Plate 3-0
Just an hour and a half after Argentina defeated Netherlands to advance to the finals of the World Cup, the Fort Lauderdale Strikers held a closed door scrimmage against one of Argentina's most famous teams, River Plate. River Plate, whose season begins in August, is in Miami training.
The Strikers gave River Plate a strong match, never letting up against the top Argentine club and creating several chances, but eventually losing the match 3-0.
Club Atletico River Plate is Argentina's winningest club. The team recently came off winning their 36th title, most in Primera Division Argentina, Argentina's top league, after defeating San Lorenzo in the 2013-14 Superfinal.
The Strikers are preparing for the upcoming NASL Fall Season, which starts this Saturday, July 12th against the Spring Champions Minnesota United FC at Lockhart Stadium.
"We are thrilled to have this opportunity to play a team of the caliber of River Plate," said Strikers Head Coach Gunter Kronsteiner. "This is a great preparation for our season. It's always good when you can play a quality team such as this."
