Match Preview: Strikers at Indy Eleven

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers (1W-1D-2L, 4 pts) are playing their second of three games in eight days on Wednesday, August 6th as they travel to face Indy Eleven (2-0-2, 6pts) at Carroll Stadium in Indianapolis. The Strikers are coming out of a solid 1-0 win against their in-state rivals Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday, August 2nd. 

“We got an important win against Tampa this weekend,” said Strikers forward Fafa Picault, who scored the winning goal against the Rowdies. “We have three games in seven days, but we have momentum right now, so hopefully this will continue on the away trip. Even though it’s not in front of our home crowd, it still should be positive results.”

Fort Lauderdale dominated the match against their rivals. Having their first scoring opportunity just seconds after kickoff, the team outshot the Rowdies 21-7. In the 72nd minute, the speedy Picault anticipated a rebound after an effort from Martin Nuñez struck the bar. He was first to the ball and got his reward with a full volley into the back of the net for the game-winning goal.

Wednesday night’s opponents, Indy Eleven are coming off a 4-2 loss against the Atlanta Silverbacks at Carroll Stadium. Indy failed t win a game in the Spring season, allowing a league worst 20 goals in 9 matches, but have turned it around, winning two of their four games in the fall.

Now we need to continue to play on the road in the same way we played at home, playing mistake free futbol, and finish some of our chances, and we should be able to get some results.”
