FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (July 31, 2014) – Full of confidence after last Saturday's thrilling 1-1 draw with the New York Cosmos, the Strikers prepare to take on another old rival in a #FloridaDerby clash with Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday, August 2, at historic Lockhart Stadium.
Fort Lauderdale played the majority of the match against the Cosmos down a man after Ronaldo Vieira was dismissed in the first half for a red-card challenge. Despite being reduced to ten men, the Strikers defended well and even took the game to the Cosmos in search of a winning goal. The result, though only a draw, was a sign of resilience and composure from the shorthanded Strikers
Saturday's opponents, the Tampa Bay Rowdies are coming off a 2-0 defeat to the league-leading San Antonio Scorpions. In the modern NASL era, the Rowdies have had the Strikers number in the rivalry, winning 10 of the 13 encounters. With a win on Saturday, the Rowdies would also claim their fifth-consecutive Coastal Cup, an annual award given to to the team with the best record in matches between the two Florida-based sides.

Coach Kronsteiner- “The Rowdies are a strong team, but we need to win and get the three points at home. We are still in the middle of the hunt for the Championship, so if we continue to play together and play mistake free football, we can make it. We played a very tough match against the Cosmos, and I’m very proud of the way our team played being down a man.”
